Overview
Summary:
Dr. Jessica Collier is an assistant professor in the Department of Communication. She received her Ph.D. in Communication Studies from the University of Texas at Austin where she also completed a postdoc from 2021-2022 at the Center for Media Engagement. She holds an M.A. in Mass Communication from UNC-Chapel Hill and B.A. degrees in Psychology and Government from the University of Virginia.
Research interests:
Dr. Collier studies how media organizations and technology platforms interact in ways that can be beneficial or detrimental to democracy. Currently, that includes exploring how exposure to misinformation, partisan memes, and news on social media affect whether people hold accurate beliefs, polarize, or block/unfriend others on social media.
