Broadcast capstone students get behind-the-scenes of WCBI's midday production

Take 30 class at WCBIThe Broadcast Capstone class gathered at WCBI Headquarters in Columbus, Miss., to get a behind-the-scenes look at the midday broadcast.

Students met with Executive Producer Mary Catherine Sullivan, Anchor/Producer Scott Martin, and News Director Joey Barnes. The WCBI news crew gave the students advice about résumé building, preparing demos, and other tips to break into an industry that is actively looking to fill Multimedia Journalist position in not only Columbus, but many of the stations in Mississippi.

The students were also able to shadow studio and control room staff as they produced the midday show. The experience was inspiring to the students who will embark on a unique opportunity in their capstone course.

Students meet on Fridays from 9 am until 5 pm, producing stories and a live 4 pm newscast. The first live broadcast is Friday, September 9th at 4 pm on MSTV.

“Take 30 News” airs on Fridays at 4 p.m. on MSTV—Maxxsouth Cable channel 98, 1098 (HD) and CSpire Cable channel 80. MSTV also can be found online at https://utc.msstate.edu/mstv/.
