Brown reelected to arts and sciences national board

Karyn Brown, a longtime Mississippi State educator and assistant dean for communication and media in the College of Arts and Sciences, now is serving a prestigious second term on the Board of Directors for the national Council of Colleges of Arts and Sciences. CCAS board members are elected by the full membership during their annual meeting held this fall in St. Louis, Missouri.

Maggie Heath

Maggie Heath is a junior communication major with a concentration in public relations from Brandon. Heath entered MSU as a Kinesiology student planning to go to physical therapy school but quickly realized that was not the path she wanted to take. After prayer, reflection and seeking guidance from professors and mentors, she decided to change her major to communication.

Hattiesburg native, Olivia Miley, graduated from Mississippi State University in just three years with a bachelor’s degree in communication and a concentration in public relations. Guided by Dr. John Forde, she strategically lined up her courses to finish quickly while still excelling academically.

Melody Fisher, an associate professor in Public Relations, participated in the panel Essential Change: Adding Diverse Role Models to Public Relations History at the annual AEJMC conference in San Francisco in August. Alongside co-authors Jeffrey Morosoff, of Hofstra,, David Brown, of Temple, and Shelley Spector of the Museum of Public Relations, Dr. Fisher discusses uncredited pioneers of public relations history.

Franklin,TN native Kellie Walton graduated from Mississippi State with a bachelor's degree in communication and a concentration in public relations in 2016. After graduating from MSU, Walton worked for different PR firms for about six years, realizing hospitality and tourism was quickly becoming her favorite industry with which to work.

Mississippi State spring summa cum laude communication graduate Rileigh Campbell of Caledonia is the Public Relations Association of Mississippi’s Student of the Year. Chosen for the honor based on her academic achievements, public relations experience and involvement on campus and in the community, Campbell’s selection was announced during the organization’s recent annual conference in Biloxi.
