MSU Speech and Debate team competes in the 13th annual Eddy Shell Invitational Tournament

The MSU Speech and Debate team competed in the 13th annual Eddy Shell Invitational Tournament this weekend. Hosted by Bossier Parish Community College, this tournament attracted experienced debaters from thirteen states across the nation.

In Team IPDA debate, Mia Robertson and Tyler Melvin worked together to finish as quarter finalists. In the novice debate division, Heather Harrison finished as an octo-finalist. In the JV division, Patrick McKenzie made it to the semi-final round. In varsity, Nirmal Bhatt and Tyler Melvin finished as octo-finalists, and Mia Robertson made it to the quarter-final round. Robertson also earned the 3rd place speaker award in her division. 

The team also participated in an asynchronous tournament for individual speaking events. The “Virtual Valentine” was hosted by Sooner Speech Alumni. Competing in Informative Speaking, Eric Humphries placed 4th. In Persuasive Speaking, Dawn Jackson placed 4th, Matteo Mauro placed 3rd, and Mia Robertson finished in 2nd place.
