Josh Foreman and co-author present during "Literature at Lunch" at the Natchez Literary and Cinema Celebration

Josh Foreman, an instructor in print & digital journalism, and his co-author, Ryan Starrett, spoke during "Literature at Lunch" at the Natchez Literary and Cinema Celebration. They told the story of John Blommart, who was a retired Royal Navy captain who settled in Natchez in the late 1700s. He ended up fighting off an American assault during the Revolutionary War. A couple years later, after the Spanish had captured Natchez, he recaptured the city using an army of British loyalists and Choctaw warriors.

Christie Jones Lawrence presents "Leading Through Crisis" at State PRAM conference

Christie Jones Lawrence, a communication instructor, presented "Leading Through Crisis" at the 2022 State Public Relations Association of Mississippi conference held in Gulfport, Miss., on April 4. According to Lawrence, managing in a crisis is challenging--even for experienced managers. Her presentation focused on understanding the fundamentals of successfully leading through a crisis, outlining key character traits of successful leaders, identifying crisis management stages, and reviewing John C. Maxwell's seven guiding principles for leading through a crisis.

Tonya Hays presented an improvisation workshop for the Southeastern Theatre Conference in Memphis. The how to workshop assisted participants in creating their own improvisation festival at their universities, high schools or community theatres.

Dr. Holli Seitz

Dr. Holli Seitz, an assistant professor in Communication & Media Studies, presented collaborative work with Dr. Antonio Gardner and Dr. Leah Pylate at the National Communication Association 107th Annual Convention. Their research, titled "Formative research to inform college health communication campaigns about COVID-19 prevention behaviors," reported the results of surveys and interviews conducted with MSU students and parents and guardians to inform the university's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Heesook Choi, an assistant professor in Print & Digital Journalism, presented "Pandemic, Communication, and Participation: Exploring the Mediating Role of Emotion, Efficacy, and Knowledge in the Effects of Communication on Civic Participation during the COVID-19 Pandemic in Mexico." This study examined potential mediators of the relationship between news use and civic participation in the context of COVID-19 pandemic in Mexico.
