Melanie Loehwing's recent publication, "From Diversity to Dignity: Overcoming Polarization in an Age of Division," examines the rhetorical implications of key terms in diversity, equity, and inclusion work. She and her co-author offer a rhetorical genealogy of the term "diversity" as it has been circulated in higher education contexts. They suggest that critical rhetorical analysis help account for the rhetorical constraints and effects of the terms.

Holli Seitz, an assistant professor within Mississippi State University’s Department of Communication, and Principal Investigator Andrew Lawton, an assistant professor in MSU’s Department of Biological Sciences, recently received over $870,000 to fund research on brain development.

Together with an interdisciplinary team of MSU researchers, Department of Communication faculty member Dr. Holli Seitz co-authored a recent journal article on research to inform family-based approaches to prevent prescription opioid misuse. Results include specific examples of predisposing, reinforcing, and enabling factors that influence whether family members engage in prevention behaviors. This work is part of the PROMISE Initiative (PReventing Opioid Misuse In the SouthEast).

An article by Dr. Holli Seitz and colleagues, “Evaluation of a Health Education Intervention for Rural Preschool and Kindergarten Children in the Southeastern United States: A Cluster Randomized Trial,” was recently published in the Journal of Human Sciences and Extension. The article reports on the evaluation of a five-year project, funded by the National Institutes of Health, that involved the development and testing of an integrated health education curriculum for young children.
