MSU student journalists at The Reflector win big at 2025 MPA summit

The Reflector student journalists took home three first-place awards this spring at the Mississippi Press Association’s O.C. McDavid Journalism Summit––walking away with a dozen top awards. The Reflector’s Editor-in-Chief Ivy Rose Ball, a senior communication major from Muscle Shoals, won multiple awards for a three-part investigation she conducted on diversity, equity and inclusion programs at MSU.

MSU wins big at ‘Best of the South’ contest, passes baton for SEJC leadership

MSU Communication Instructor Josh Foreman served as SEJC president for 2024–2025 and organized this year’s conference held on the MSU campus. He also co-coordinated the annual “Best of the South” contest with Samford University’s Clay Carey. Georgia Highlands Instructor Katie Baxter will take over as SEJC president for 2025–2026.

Josh Foreman served on a panel at Mississippi Book Festival

Josh Foreman, who co-authored Death Along the Natchez Trace (History Press, 2022) with Ryan Starrett, talked about the book as part of the "Decidedly Southern" panel discussion at the Mississippi Book Festival. The panel was moderated by Patrick Dean, author of A Window to Heaven: The Daring First Ascent of Denali: America’s Wildest Peak. Other panelists included Chris McLaughlin, author of Mississippi Barking: Hurricane Katrina and a Life that Went to the Dogs; Julie Hines Mabus, author of Confessions of a Southern Beauty Queen; Ty Pinkins, author of 23 Miles and Running; and David Crews, author of the Mississippi Book of Quotations.
