Erin Erter is a sophomore Communication major with a concentration in Print & Digital Journalism from Flowood. Eter currently works as the opinion editor for the Reflector and also acts as an editor for The Streetcar, a student literary journal. Erter says writing about the arts is her favorite area of journalism. She hopes to one day work as an editor or writer for a music magazine interviewing artists.

Erter says she declared Communication as her major because, “I've always wanted to make the media more accessible to others, whether it be those who may not understand certain things happening in their community or those completely unaware of things going on. Communication and journalism gives those people the opportunity to take real issues that affect them in their own hands, and allows everyone an opportunity to speak up and take action.”

Erter was once told by a professor to, “Embrace the awkwardness during interviews!” Erter says this is the best piece of advice she has ever received from a professor. Eter says anytime she is nervous to speak to someone, that being aware of that nervousness and even expressing it to the other person helps humanize the experience and makes important conversations possible!

What has been your favorite class you have taken so far?
Introduction to News Writing and Reporting with Dr. Poe!

What is your favorite Starkville restaurant?
Definitely a tie between Mi Hacienda and Bulldog Burger!

What is your best piece of advice for incoming communication students?
Go for what you want! Don't let nervousness or the fear of failure get in the way. If you want to write about something or even interview someone that feels impossible, don't give it up until you try! I've held up signs from the crowd at concerts asking to interview bands-- some agreed, some did not. At the end of the day, the worst they can say is no. You'll never know unless you try!

What is your favorite place on MSU's campus?
The Chadwick Lake trail!

Davis Wade Stadium or Dudy Noble Field?
Davis Wade all the way! So many of my amazing memories have been made there.

Do you drink coffee? If so, what is your coffee order?
I'm not a coffee fan, but I do love a good matcha latte-- especially from Coffee Depot!
