River Grace Neri, a Macclenny, Florida native, is a junior Communication major with a concentration in public relations. Going into her senior year of high school Neri was looking at smaller, out of state schools because she wanted a sense of community and to experience something new. Neri says as soon as she stepped on MSU's campus she felt like everyone truly cared about her and wanted her to be here.

“Walking onto campus I immediately knew. I’m not exactly sure how to explain the feeling but I knew that I wanted to be ringing a cowbell for the rest of my life!”

Neri chose Communication as her major after coming to the realization that she had a passion for helping others. She says public relations interested her the most, leading her to falling in love with the concentration. She loves being able to meet new people and make connections, which is such a large part of public relations.

Neri said her favorite class she has taken so far within the department is Public Relations Case Problems with Dr. John Forde.

“The best advice I have ever received from a professor is when Dr. Forde told us that the worst someone is going to say is 'no' and that we should always go for it!”

Neri informs encourages CMT students to join everything possible and put themselves out there, reinforcing how important networking is within Communications and how beneficial it is to make those connections early.

After she graduates, Neri plans on pursuing a career in event planning and design.

Neri says, “Since I was a little girl I would watch Four Weddings and Say Yes to the Dress and loved it. I think weddings are the dreamiest thing in the world and the thought of that being my everyday life is so cool! This past year for my sorority I was our parents chair and got to plan a parents date party and it was so much fun! I think after that experience I’m stuck on it now and I want to keep doing it!”
