Ethan Foster was named winner of the “Radio Broadcast” category at the Society of Professional Journalists Region 12 conference on April 1-2. Foster’s submission will move on to the national competition, where it will be judged against the best in college media.

Hannah Blankenship, a senior Communication and Spanish major, was named College Journalist of the Year at the 2022 SEJC awards ceremony on March 25. It is the top overall award at the conference, and highly sought after by student journalists from more than 25 member universities.

Reflector takes ‘General Excellence’ at MPA for second straight year

For the second year in a row, the Reflector won the top award at the O.C. McDavid Journalism Summit, held March 24 in Jackson. The Reflector beat the University of Southern Mississippi’s Student Printz and the University of Mississippi’s Daily Mississippian to earn first place in “General Excellence.”

Dr. Heesook Choi, assistant professor in print & digital journalism, was recently published in the Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media with her work "How Partisan Cable News Mobilizes Viewers: Partisan Media, Discussion Networks and Political Participation" which examines how partisan media and discussion networks work together to mobilize viewers in the era of partisan polarization.

Tanner Marlar is a junior communication major concentrating in print and digital journalism. Originally from Kossuth, Miss., Marlar always had a passion for writing and sports, so he chose to combine the two, with hopes of covering sports for a major news outlet after graduation.

Greg Barker received his Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a concentration in Journalism in 1988 from Mississippi State University. The Meridian, Miss., native now resides in Birmingham, Ala., serving as the president of the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama.
