Two MSU communication faculty members honored by Mississippi Theatre Association

Two Mississippi State Department of Communication faculty members took home awards from the recent Mississippi Theatre Association annual festival. Instructor Melanie Harris won the award for Outstanding Contribution to Community Theatre - College and University Division, and lecturer Paula Mabry won Best Direction - Community Theatre Division.

Theatre MSU brings Shakespeare classic ‘Macbeth’ to campus next week

Mississippi State’s Theatre MSU next week presents a Shakespeare classic for its final production of the year. “Macbeth,” set during 11th century Scotland, opens Wednesday [Feb. 22] and continues Friday-Saturday [Feb. 24-25] at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday [Feb. 26] at 2:30 p.m. on McComas Hall’s main stage. A special performance for school audiences also is planned.

Smith named MSU’s Mississippi Humanities Council Teacher of the Year

Pete Smith, an associate professor of communication at Mississippi State University, is MSU’s 2023 Mississippi Humanities Council Teacher of the Year. Smith will receive his award at the MHC’s annual ceremony in Jackson on March 24. Approximately 30 awards will be given to Mississippians whose work is recognized for bringing insights of the humanities to public audiences.

Mississippi State Associate Professor Melody Fisher fills a void in social science literature about public relations history with her 2022 book highlighting the practices and scholarship contributions to the field by members of ethnically and racially underrepresented groups.

‘Story State’ contest seeks new Mississippi storytellers

Mississippi State University’s Story State 2023—an annual event aimed at sharing Mississippi stories—is open for entries for new and original written, oral or filmed stories. The competition is open to all students enrolled at a Mississippi institution of higher learning, with entries accepted until Feb. 1.

Knight named MSU’s first Luckyday Scholars Program Faculty Fellow

Mississippi State Department of Communication Instructor Amy Knight is the university’s first Luckyday Scholars Program Faculty Fellow. Knight’s career has deep roots with the Luckyday Program, having begun her service with the initiative in 2004 as a graduate assistant and then as assistant director in 2006 for two years at the University of Southern Mississippi.
